Fashion Inspired By: Highlighters

When I was in college I was a major study bug. I used to hole myself up in a coffee shop with all of my text books and course readers and highlight away, I secretly loved it. By the time I was done for the day half of my materials were bright yellow. Maybe I miss those mid-week study sessions at The Coffee Bean, or maybe the warm weather just makes me crave neons? Whatever it is, I have been wearing a lot of yellow this summer and thought I would share a few of my favorite pieces.

It all started with these silly shoes! I got them from Target, I figured they would be perfect going to and from Pilates classes, but the bright color has made me want to wear them all the time, they are on sale for $11 right now, too…shwinggg!

Summer Refreshments

Quick Note: I am back from my wedding and honeymoon and cannot wait to start posting regularly again! I also can’t wait to share some wedding details with you all once I receive our photos from the photographers.

It is 88 degrees here in Los Angeles today, and bee-yoo-tee-full! I love the summer weather and everything it involves – bathing suits, sundresses, the smell of sunblock, barbecues, and summer refreshments!

When it’s this hot out, I like to have an ice cold beverage handy at all times. Water is obviously the very best choice from a health perspective, but what else can we sip on to keep us cool and refreshed?

I used to be a big diet soda drinker…eeeek! But no more! Back in college I interned at Paramount Studios in the summer. We had access to a fountain soda and I would get up from my desk once an hour and refill my little cup with Diet Coke. I cringe now thinking about all of the chemicals I was pumping into my body. There are far better, healthier, and tastier ways to stay cool and refreshed during a heat wave!

The Olsen’s April Vogue Featurette-Photos and Interview

The Olsen’s have been style icons of mine since I was a child, I followed them from their big floppy hat days with sunflowers, all the way into their venture into hobo chic in 2005, and now lust after their gorgeous pieces from The Row. They seem to have shied away from photo shoots and formal interviews since their departure from acting in lieu of designing. Naturally I was delighted to see that they had sat down with Vogue to discuss their career shifts. Love them.

Rachel Zoe’s Chic Ensemble: Black With A Pop of Leopard

A closer look at the shoes:

The Man Repellar (Leandra Medine) once said that leopard print was her favorite color, and I can’t say I totally disagree. While the slew of Jersey reality shows may have given then print a bad name, the trend is on point when done in just accents here and there. Miss Rachel Zoe displays a great way of showing off your love for animal prints by wearing all black and adding a punch of excitement in the shoe. Of course, we’d expect no less from the fashion guru. Very cute, honey.

When going for a leopard shoe, keep the rest of the look minimal. Now is not the time to be matchy matchy. I generally believe in being over the top, breaking style rules, and just doing whatever, but with leopard/zebra/etc less is more. Let your hot shoes be the center of attention on this one!

1) Asos $56

2) Zara $139

3) Stuart Weitzman $230

4) Tory Burch $125

Look for Less: Charlize Theron in Denim

Loving this look from the gorgeous Miss Charlize Theron. So simple, yet so stylish! I am always a major fan of a great denim chalay, but it can be hard to pair denim on denim. Some might say the denim on denim look is a style no no, and I used to be one to agree…however, by switching up the hues she pulls it off. The light denim/dark denim/minimal accessories look works here because there aren’t a million things going on. Simple, functional, yet not at all sloppy. To recreate the look on a non Oscar-Award-Winning-Salary, see below!

1) Denim Chambray from Top Shop ($50)

2) Denim Skinnies from H&M ($10)

3) Fedora from Buckle ($25)

4) Sunnies from PacSun ($13)

5) Shoes from Aldo ($50)
